It’s not often that I meet ladies who crack me up as deeply as the Rad Girls. I had the pleasure of making their acquaintance recently at a ZexSports event benefiting Stoked Mentoring, an organization that does 1:1 action sports mentoring with teens (it’s awesome, check it out).
The Rad Girls are three hysterical mamas who have had a kickass show on Fuse TV since April of 2007, pulling crazy pranks and stunts that you wouldn’t believe. They are often compared to the “Jackass” guys, although I have to say, they are way smarter, definitely more creative, and just downright more RAD! Sorry, Jackass… but you guys just couldn’t pull off Bridal Boxing, or a Dutch Oven Booth.
Check out this video, that literally made me lose my shit (and you DO need to be 18 to view it).
I got some inside scoop from Munchie and Romona Cash just days ago:
Shady Sadie: How (and when) did you, Ramona and Darling meet and form the Rad Girls?
Munchi: I met Ramona Cash about 5 years ago at a Music Venue/Bar called the Catalyst in Santa Cruz where we both worked as cocktail waitresses. Clementine and I used to date two guys who were in the same band, called the Expendables. We ended up becoming really good friends and ditching our men for each other (ha ha).
SS: What is your favorite stunt that you’ve ever pulled?
Munchie: I ran a 5-mile beer run in Santa Cruz in 2005. I drank 3 or 4 beers before I even started the run, and polished off a 12 pack during the actual run. I was literally running while shot-gunning and beer-bonging beers. It was crazy! For the finale, I did a Keg Stand and then dove into a kiddie pool of beer. The entire day was incredible! The Beer Run will be on our first DVD which should be out by the end of August.
SS: What is the most painful stunt that you’ve ever pulled?
Romona Cash: When Rad Girls was first getting going a few summers ago, I broke my femur skating a gnarly pool outside of Santa Cruz. I wanted to put a twist on barging the park, riding dressed as a classical ballerina-leotard, tights, tutu, tiara, the whole deal…Unfortunately I didn’t get that far! I fell about nine feet on concrete right onto my knee and cracked it right in half. Yeah, that hurt. Eating shit riding Clem’s surfboard down a flight of stairs during Season One definitely landed me in the E.R., too. I’m all good now, though! You gotta pay to play.
SS: Do you compare yourselves to “Jackass”, or have other’s made that compairison?
Ramona Cash: People draw all kinds of comparisons between our show and Jackass, figuring that they’re “crazy guys doing crazy stuff,” and we’re “crazy girls doing crazy stuff.” I understand that connection for sure. In a lot of ways we ARE alike (undertaking challenges, stunts or pranks that seem offensive on purpose just to make ourselves laugh) but we’re pretty different, too. We’re a little more snuggly, and I’m positive that we get away with more being female, too.
SS: Would you ever team up with them?
Ramona Cash: I would be stoked to team up with them, as long as they don’t try to sock ME in the gonads!
SS: Why do you think crazy stunts go over better coming from women than men? (AKA—- I don’t think anybody on the street would let a man fart in their mouth, let’s be real).
Munchie: I think that the stereotypically, people expect men to be more rude, obnoxious and physically daring than women. People in general aren’t really expecting crazy behavior from women, therefore it really shocks them and completely throws them off when they see girls like us pulling crazy ass pranks or stunts…Plus, women in general are way more charming than men, which makes it way easier to get out of tough situations…
[SS]: Munchie is a major crack-up, and pulled me aside at the ZexSports event to let me know she’d be pulling a RAD prank on the red carpet, so I should stick around. She also expressed that she was tired of women who starve themselves before going in front of the press at an event, which I (of course) heartily agreed with. During an interview with Fuel TV, she pulled a hot, greasy rib from her purse and started eating it right there. Oh yes she did!
I had to ask Munchie about it…
SS: How was that rib on the red carpet? That looked good…
Munchie: The rib tasted delicious! I love meat, and it was so great busting a rib (of all things!) out of my purse in the middle of our interview with Fuel because it was the last thing I think anyone expected to see…what can I say? I got hungry. That’s why they call me Munchie!
[SS]: She is so amazing…
SS: What’s next for the Rad Girls?
Ramona Cash: We’re soo excited to be filming Rad Girls Season 2 this summer, due to hit the airwaves on MAV TV in October! Mav is an awesome, independent V.O.D. network that has given us enormous creative freedom to make more of what we really want and love. Old fans will definitely get a kick out of seeing us be a little bit more “seasoned” and new viewers will probably not believe their freaking eyes! We’re upping the ante, for sure.
After we wrap filming later this summer, we’ll be joining the Vans WARPED Tour for select dates in Oregon, Washington and California-we’ll be updating our sites online, so keep ya eyes peeled…We’re also amped to be releasing our first DVD right around the same time! It will be all “Old School” Rad Girls material for the die-hards out there, filmed roots style in Santa Cruz, CA where the project first began. Ramona’s husband Justin is designing the cover art and it will feature tons of rad music from indie artists (that we picked ourselves)!
[SS]: And just because we have to know…
SS: Shady Sadie poll… Butt sex: yay or nay?
Romona Cash: In principle, it’s a GREAT idea, but in practice, our jury is still out. Depends on the size of the dong.
[SS]: A diplomatic answer… I love these ladies, and I won’t be missing an episode of Season 2! Check them out ASAP!.
