…and you find all kinds of crazy shit. I get so into reading blogs and websites of friends and what-have-you that sometimes it’s fun to read some of the bigger sites for a change.

Well, today I found this little number, entitled JEALOUS WOMEN!!!.

OK. Allow me to be the first to admit that I myself have been known to experience a certain level of jealousy. It’s no fun. But I’m trying to get over it…anyway, not about me. My point is, assuming that Yahoo is read by lots and lots of people and so maybe it’s a good sampling of internet readers, there was a lot to be gleaned from this article about the common vernacular used by women talking about other women. For starters:

At first I thought the author was talking about herself in an amusing and self-deprecating way, so I was all, “Hell yeah girl, preach it…” and I went on to continue reading.

Turns out her man is in a band:

Before we met, he slept with one of these groupies twice…He has told me that he’s ashamed of this and would never do it again. He doesnt [sic] particularly find her to be the most attractive so I can understand why he is ashamed.

She was ugly, so no wonder he felt dumb about hitting that! Tee-hee. Anyway, the rest of the post is all about how this woman proceeded to “get out of line”:

I instantly felt her jealousy as soon as I walked up especially when he put his arm around me and kissed me in front of her :) …As we were getting ready to leave and he was helping put the bands equipment up I heard his phone ring. It was her! Calling him in front of me all while we are in the same room!

I called her to ask her why she felt the need to call him when he was right there in person. She told me because she just wanted to say hi and I was there acting all jealous. Funny thing is….how can I be jealous when he is with me and not her? I am not conceited but I AM very confident in my appearance and I know how attracted he is to me. So being jealous of her is inconceiveable [sic]…Oh and one more thing, me and my man are both 27…this lady is 36!

Not surprisingly, many of the 196 comments weren’t so nice - they called the woman the story is about an idiot, miserable, “nothing pretty to look at,” etc.

OK, ladies. We can do better than this. We don’t have to call each other ugly or old, and we don’t have to hit on each other’s men. Changing the way women are perceived and judged in society (based on looks, based on sexuality, based on “appropriate” behavior) starts on a very small and personal level, one that we can all work to make better (myself included!).

And one more thing - when shit like this goes down, we don’t have to post the entire fucking thing on Yahoo.
