I’ve been falling out of love with The Huffington Post for months now. There are a lot of reasons, but I recently found a doozy: the fact that they publish “experts” like Karen Salmansohn, and her “Winning Weight Loss Tip: It’s Not Just About What You Put in Your Mouth“. Gag me. Here’s what pushed me over the edge,
FACT: If you’re presently overweight, it’s because you’re not being hungry enough about pursuing life’s other abundant pleasures - and are seeing mostly the pleasure of food.
Oh, really? Well, thank you, Karen, for clearing up that “fact”.
Personally, I’m definitely hungry for life’s pleasures (even though that sentence sounds remarkably pervy…) One of those, by the way, if I could fit it in between spending time with friends and family, pursuing challenging and rewarding jobs, traveling, having sex, being a doula, activist, aunt, sister, etc… would be a shake-down with you, Karen. (And PS– what a let-down, Arianna.)
A common misconception about fat people: we don’t do anything, all we ever think about is food, booze, food, high fructose corn syrup, food, food, food. The fact is, we actually lead lives that are quite similar to most thin peoples- we’re just fat. Which, by the way, doesn’t dull our senses, or keep us from having passions, hobbies, talents and achievements. It just means we’re fat. That’s ALL.
I think it might be high-time to write some “Chubby Lady Tips: How Not to Be a Narcissistic Asshole Who Obsesses About Your Body Instead of Actually Contributing to the World”.

Karen whats-her-name needs schooling in a few of those pleasures, methinks. Seriously, I know a few skinny people who think about food WAY more than the rest of us.
