OK, sorry to bring it down here guys, but this is so sad. And also very, very moving. I’d embed the video but I can’t figure it out, so click here to watch.
At first I thought it was a joke based on the description over there at Jezebel, but it’s not a joke at all. This was back in the Ashley Dupre days, so I know it’s old, but I never saw this clip. It’s from the Diane Sawyer expose on prostitution in America (you know, cause prostitution was so hip for a little while there!), and it’s just a quick interview with a woman who’s working as a prostitute.
I am pro-sex work - obv - so to me, the woman in this video captures the sadness that comes from being stuck in a situation that feels beyond your own control. Not, let the record show, sadness that is necessarily or exclusively about sex work, although I’m sure many viewers assumed that’s what this was about.
I got deep. I’m curious to hear what you all think after watching it.

It was sad but not surprising to me… maybe because of your build-up.
A lot of people who get hooked on drugs (guys and girls) end up doing things they don’t want to be doing because they need the next fix.
And the hint at abuse as a child… it’s horrifying how someone can fuck up a person’s whole life before they even learn to drive a car.
