Yeah, I’m feeling a little snarky on this lovely, Los Angeles Saturday- and I’ve been thinking about Mommy Blogs. I don’t want to hate on anyone personally (just generally), so I’m not gonna’ link to any specifics. But if you don’t know what I’m talking about, just paste “mommy blog” into Google, and see what I mean.
Mommy blogs- online journals dedicated to all things “mommy”- are a serious pet peeve of mine. First of all, I just don’t give a fuck. It’s true. I don’t care about sippy cups, diapers, park escapades, play-dates, toddler drama- it’s all boring as hell. Is it not?
And I’m not a baby-hater. For those of you who don’t know, this Jew fucking loves some babies. I’m a doula (certified childbirth attendant and coach), have been a nanny for several families in my past, and go ga-ga over babies that I know and love. But the bottom line, and let me go ahead and speak for you, because I’m pretty sure you agree: Nobody gives a fuck about babies/children that they don’t know personally. Sure, we like to look at pics of Suri Cruise, or Sasha Obama… but some random ladies kids who live in some who-cares-at-all suburb- not so much. Well, except maybe other mommy’s that fall into that same category.
Two other things come to mind. On the one hand, women’s history has always been written by women. Journals found for generations past have taught us all kinds of details about life as they knew it, and filled in gaps left by “history” being written about the lives of men. Sure. But these are details nobody wants to hear about! Who cares that you bring baby wipes with you to the indoor playground because you feel the need to wipe everything down first that you child might touch?! Snoozer!
The second thing is that these blogs are almost entirely written by white women (as it seems to me). Sure, I’m a white woman, and I’m writing this blog, and maybe you don’t give a fuck. Fair. Touche. But at least I’m trying to entertain you. These women aren’t trying to entertain- and maybe that’s what bugs me. At least try to be interesting, ladies!
So, are these blogs just narcissistic jaunts? Support groups gone public? I don’t know. But as I said, I don’t give a fuck.

I find mommy blogs mind numbing and soul crushing. I barely find my own spawns runny noses and park escapades interesting, let alone some middle american housewives.
I wanna see a mom blog written by a single mother from the projects on a library computer. THAT would be interesting.
